Zygomatic Implant (Zygoma Implants) Clinical Cases: Professor Wu Dayi

Professor Wu Dayi, who studied under Professor Chen Anyu—the founder of Chengdu Anyu Dental Implant Hospital—is recognized as one of the leading experts in China's dental implant field.
Professor Wu Dayi has successfully completed over 1,000 zygomatic implant cases, bringing hope to patients suffering from severe bone loss to regain their chewing function and a confident smile.
  • Zygomatic implantology is a complex dental implant technique designed for patients with severe atrophy or deficiency of the maxillary bone, often referred to as "soilless cultivation" tooth implantation. By directly placing specially designed extra-long dental implants into the zygomatic bone (cheekbone), it bypasses the atrophied maxillary alveolar bone to achieve stable tooth restoration. This advanced technique eliminates the need for extensive bone grafting surgeries typically required before traditional implants, significantly shortening the overall treatment period. It stands as one of the ultimate solutions to "insufficient bone volume"—the most challenging obstacle in dental implantology—and is particularly suitable for edentulous patients with long-term tooth loss and severe alveolar bone resorption.
  • The principle of zygomatic implant technology lies in utilizing the zygomatic bone as a robust anchor point. As one of the hardest and most stable bones in the human face, the zygomatic bone features high density, providing exceptional primary stability for the implants. The surgeon inserts a titanium alloy implant, significantly longer than standard dental implants, through the crest or lateral aspect of the posterior maxillary alveolar ridge at a specific angle, traversing the maxillary sinus, and finally anchoring it securely into the zygomatic bone. Typically, 2 to 4 zygomatic implants are placed in one maxilla, often combined with conventional implants or used as a full-zygoma protocol, to support a fixed full-arch prosthesis. This allows for "immediate loading," enabling patients to receive their teeth on the same day as the surgery.
  • Due to the complex anatomical structures in the surgical area, which is in close proximity to the orbits, nerves, and blood vessels, the procedure demands extremely high technical expertise. It requires the surgeon to possess profound skills in maxillofacial surgery and anatomy, earning it the reputation as the "Mount Everest" of the dental implant field. To ensure maximum patient safety and comfort, the surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation.
